Welsh darts purist turns passion into successful Social Media following- The Story of the rise of Darts Cymru

In April of 2019, Dylan Williams decided to set up his own social media account dedicated to darts in Wales out of frustration. At the time, Welsh Darts players were not having the recognition they deserved and he wanted to make a change.

What started off as PDC Cymru quickly turned into something much bigger as it was apparent from the off that there was audience out there for Dylan to appeal to. Fast forward to 2025, and a name change, Darts Cymru is now on the verge of 4000 followers on X (Twitter) and on Facebook has over 16,000 followers.

On the latest episode of the University of South Wales second year’s podcast, In the Field, Harry Tovey sat down with Dylan and discussed the story of Darts Cymru and how anyone could do what he did.

Harry: “What made you set up Darts Cymru?”

Dylan: “I was a frustrated darts fan, somebody who was seeing how much success Gerwyn (Price) and Johnny (Clayton) were having on a regular basis. “But having to scroll through the internet, BBC Sport pages in Wales and there was no sign of anybody sort of covering that success.

“So in April 2019, Johnny was on his way to winning a Players Championship event and I just thought to myself if he wins today who is actually going to report on this. I was playing mind games with myself thinking nobody is going to say anything.

“It had been on my mind for a couple of months, thinking of starting a channel. So that Sunday afternoon I remember saying I’ll start a Twitter channel, PDC Cymru I called it at the time and posted that Johnny had won and a bit of a summary of his results.

“Very quickly it became apparent there were other people out there who felt the same as me, who was looking for news about Welsh darts, but obviously couldn’t find it anywhere and PDC Cymru was the answer at that time.

“Looking back five years, it’s come a very long way now and I believe now people are depending on what I share with them.”
